Memoir
It is truly remarkable to think that only two years ago I stood in room# 105 as I spoke concerning the history of my native country Ireland. It was my junior year in Mr. Hetherington's AP U.S. history class. I vividly remember gazing into my classmates eyes as I exhorted them to learn from the mistakes of the past. To truly grasp the importance of the consequences of history, little did I know that my experience in that classroom would also become "history".
I remember during the last moments of my "Potato Famine" speech; the entire class was in complete silence. After delving into the brutal details of the English oppression over Ireland; i knew the class had one question. "Erik what do you believe?"
In that moment I paused and looked out the window and declared,"My friends we are at a turning point in our lives as men and women; our future is ahead of us, will we watch this world change or will we become the change we seek?"
I sit here in my dorm in Washington D.C. at George Washington University, my journey has officially begun...
